Basilica St. Anne de Beaupre is located in a town of the same name located along the St. Lawrence river and about 22 miles away from Quebec City.
The town of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is located solidly in agricultural lands and the church, upon which the Basilica now stands, was originally built by sailors who frequently shipwrecked in the environs. yes you heard me correctly that was not a typo. The Basilica has actually been built on top of the original church and you’ll see evidence of that in the pictures in the gallery below, Upstairs, with high ceilings, is the Basilica and downstairs, with the low ceilings, is the original church.
Another unique feature of this Basilica is that it is reputed to have healing powers for those with walking ailments, there are tons of crutches, walking sticks and other walking aids left at the church by those who needed them to make the pilgrimage.
Enjoy their website and a few of my images of this fascinating shrine.
