Cricket is thought to be quite a sedate game and a game for the elite but it is far from that. Cricket is played in most if not all of the Commonwealth countries and is the second most popular game worldwide after football.
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing the Barbados team play a night match against the Notthinghamshire team from the UK in the current T20 series and I found the action of the bowling particularly enthralling, This entire series was shot using only 2 lenses a 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Sigma lens and a Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 lens. of course the faster glass was better but it didn’t’ have the range, I need to go lens shopping if I’m going to be shooting more night cricket. I have a lot of respect for the Sigma lens it is one of the first lenses I owned when I started shooting digitally and has been “through the war” with me, it is the lens that I won my first photography award. The Nikon on the other hand is much newer, super fast and has exceptional DOF performance, I’d recommend either of these lenses unabashedly.
I’ll share a few of my images here with you. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below, I’ve got quite a few images from the day if you’d like to see more posted all you need to do is let me know.
