Sylights looks like an interesting app for those who want to document and share their lighting set-ups.
One of my specialities is travelling and shooting, in my travels to many cities I find it much easier to use a hotel room as a studio than to find a studio in a strange city. If you pick your hotel carefully you’ll already have a backdrop (the wall to wall curtain at the back of the room), light stands the TV’s cabinet makes a perfect place to set up 2 reflectors and put a RC flash inside for a softbox (wedge them between the top of the cabinet and the ceiling, you’ll need large reflectors).
Using this and other creative methods I’ve managed to shoot in many places using my 3 Nikon SB800’s as the sole lighting sources and achieved such great images such as this one.
I particularly like that Sylights allows you to select the equipment you have and then view diagrams that others have shared using the app. I’m hoping they make an Android version soon, I can tell it is an app that I’ll be an avid user of.
In the meanwhile if anyone has an iPad and wants to share their experiences with the app. feel free to leave a comment. Feel free to share some image links also.
